According to a survey conducted by the Korean Film Council, just under half of South Korean Internet users download pirated materials from the web. In South Korea, downloading bootleg films has become a national Internet pastime, along with online gaming and porn archive collections.
About a third of surveyed users claimed that the cost savings of downloading movies was a prime motive and about 21 percent rationalized the downloads as being more hassle-free as opposed to purchasing legitimate products. 28 percent of people who said they have never downloaded any pirates materials said so because it was too complicated.

Some dudes from J.R. Antrim’s site put together a pretty interesting videogame look-a-like video. Some of the look-a-likes are shameless ripoffs and others just make me scratch my head. I think my favorite one was the Solid Snake / Kyle Reese comparison (even the same friggin’ hip gear) ;)
After news that DivX Inc’s video compression technology would be fully supported by the Playstation 3, shares rose 2.4 percent, rising 44 cents to $19.07 this morning.
Word has also been made that the Xbox 360 will also be licensing the DivX technology as well, but no official statements have been released. Analysts highly suspect 2008 will be the year of DivX on the Xbox 360.
The news has been an incredible breakthrough for DivX Inc. as they go head-to-head with DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray technology on the next-gen systems. The battle of the video compression wars are on!
Today marks the first day in the history of the Xbox console where Microsoft has produced a yearly profit that was positive. Earlier today, the big M’s Xbox Entertainment and Devices Devision posted an unaudited operating income for the quarter ending September 30 of $165 million. Compared to last year, we saw a loss of $142 million. Obviously, all fingers are pointing to the successful Halo 3 release.
In the first day of the game’s US release, Halo 3 generated a whopping $170 million, making it the most popular selling game in video game history. Over the course of the week, Halo 3 sales grew to $300 globally.
Microsoft predicts its total revenues in 2008 will exceed the $58 billion mark, with an operating income of approximately $23 billion.
Now that the Halo 3 honeymoon is over, most 360 gamers are already rallying up for Halo 4, and I can only imagine the crazy profits that game will turn out. The big question on the plate is how Bungie will twist their way out of the awful Halo 3 ending.
As you can see, the new layout is up for the site and things are running a lot more smoothly than before. Feel free to send me an email if you encounter any bugs.

The infamous creator of Pong, NOLAN BUSHNESS (also the brain-child behind the Chuck E Cheese Pizza Time restaurants) has decidedly poo-poo’d on the current state of video games:
“Video games today are a race to the bottom,” he spouted off. “They are pure, unadulterated trash and I’m sad for that.”
Bushness feels that the future of gaming lies in family-based multiplayer environments where players participate in non-electronic tabletop games, where families can interact with one another socially, and enjoy tasty, reasonably priced meals.
“Social games represent something that has been missing,” he adds. “Most of the board games are purchased by women for families. It is this gaming world that can be re-energized. We used to have families sit down and play a game together. A lot of video games today are very isolated. You don’t see mom and dad, sister and brother, sitting down like they used to play, say, Monopoly,” says Bushnell. “That represented good mentoring time for families that just isn’t happening now.”

Software pirates around the world are applauding in unison as news begins to circulate around the Internet that the Pirate Bay has recently acquired the domain for the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI.com). The Pirate Bay and the IFPI have been at war for some time now, and this undercover snatch of the domain was a convenient kick-in-the-balls at the IFPI. A Pirate Bay admin, Brokeup, posted via TorrentFreak:
“It’s not a hack. Someone just gave us the domain name. We have no idea how they got it, but it’s ours and we’re keeping it.”
With those kinds of ties, I’m sure we’ll see more shenanigans afoot very soon.

So you’re at work right now, maybe listening to your favourite oldies or easy listening station (or whatever it is the kids are listening to these days), and your co-workers might be walking by, or you work in a retail store and theres customers around who can hear your Barry Manilow you wouldn’t assume that you’re doing anything wrong would you? You certainly wouldn’t assume that you’re doing something illegal. Well if you live in the UK, according to The Performing Rights Society (PRS) you’re a filthy criminal and should pay up for royalties.
Workers at the Kwik-Fit car repair shop who brought in their own personal radios to listen to music while they work are being sued for £200,000.
The PRS argues that the playing of these radios amounts to public performance and there for royalties should have been paid.
What’s next, the guy in his car who has his radio turned up too loud is going to have to pay royalties too? Ridiculous.
