Chinese Government Starts Nation-Wide Reality Show

The Chinese government seems pretty eager to start a nation-wide campaign to install 20,000 surveillance cameras along streets in southern china. Additionally, all Chinese citizens will also have to apply for residency cards which will include citizen’s names, addresses, work history, educational background, religion, ethnicity, police record, medical insurance status, personal reproductive history (to help enforce China’s “one-child” policy) and landlord’s phone number.

Internet rumors have suggested that bits and pieces from the footage recorded from the cameras will be used to create a 24/7 sitcom, which will be available as a stream-able podcast. “Segments will be patched together and voice-dubbing will be added to help create a storyline for the show,” said Paul Chow via IRC. “The residency cards will help producers to create character profiles, so hiring extra writers won’t be necessary. I think this is the future of entertainment in the world and you will soon see other countries follow suit.”

Mark Burnett is probably still recovering from his “Pirate Master” debacle to even consider replicating China’s foresightedness.
