31% of Social Networking Users Lie About Their Identities

Emedia survey shows that 31% of users involved in social networking sites lie about their identity and personal traits. Sites targeted in the survey include Myspace, Youtube, Friends Reunited, Facebook, Linkedin and Bebo.
Some people have become so insecure while online and face a lot of pressure when posting information about themselves that they need to “boost” their personalities by exaggerating the truth. “Myspace is generally featured as a way to express yourself online. Most people have pretty bland personalities to begin with so they feel it doesn’t hurt to “spice up” their life while online,” said Industry Analyst Jamie Mars. “There’s certainly nothing wrong with that. Everybody wants to feel important sometime.”
